| Abner
Jenkins began his career as a criminal against the Human Torch
and the Thing in Strange Tales #123 and eventually went
on to battle just about every hero you can name. He met
Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man #21 and it was the first
of many meetings. Alone, or as part of the Sinister Syndicate,
the Beetle has proven to be very little trouble to
Spider-Man...As well as Daredevil, the Human Torch, the
Avengers, Iron Man, well you get the point! A highlight in his
career against Spider-Man took place in Spectacular
Spider-Man #58-60 where he showed off a new battle suit, but
again was defeated, this time with help from the Gibbon no less! |

The
Beetle also played a part in several Spider-Man limited series
including Deadly Foes, Lethal Foes, and Web Of
Doom. He was a member of the Sinister Syndicate that debuted
in Amazing Spider-Man #280 and appeared with them several
times thereafter including their little known appearances in Silver
Sable #16 & 17 in a backup story and most recently in
the retro Webspinners #17 & 18. The Beetle became an
over-used villain that was defeated way to easily too many
times. He made a huge transition in the pages of the Thunderbolts
where he, along with other villains, took on new identities and
gave up their life of crime to serve a better purpose. He has
since gone through many changes taking on the identity of
M.A.C.H-1 and a new Beetle. |
