The winner was the first to retrieve pieces of the Golden Globe of Life which were hidden in 4 corners of the earth. The Grandmaster's team consisted of Thing, Captain America, Daredevil, She-Hulk, Talisman, Darkstar, Defensor, Sasquatch, Captain Britain, Wolverine, Le Peregrine, & Blitzkrieg while Death's team consisted of Iron Man, Ironfist, Invisible Girl, Vanguard, Black Panther, Arabian Knight, Sunfire, Shamrock, Storm, Angel, Collective Man, & Sabra. Spider-man was not selected by either to be part of their team so he only appeared in issue 1 and a brief cameo in issue 2. Continued.
