Madam Web was introduced innocently in Amazing Spider-Man #210, as peter Parker first learned of a teacher of paranormal phenomena. Skeptical at first, Peter met Madam Web as Spider-Man, and she helped him rescue the publisher of the Daily Globe. She also became aware that Peter Parker was Spider-Man, but his secret was safe with Madam Web. Spider-Man next sought the help of Madam Web in Amazing Spider-Man #216. In that issue, Madam Web helped Spider-Man with the assassination attempt on a runner in a marathon race. About a year and a half later, Madam Web would become a character in one of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever.

In Amazing Spider-Man #229 & #230, Madam Web was sought by Black Tom Cassidy, a long-time cohort of the Juggernaut. They sought to use her powers for their gain, but she was ripped apart from her life-support system by the Juggernaut. After being taken to the hospital, Cassandra suffered from severe shock & brain damage. She became amnesiac and also forgot that Peter was Spider-Man. It was a long time between appearances after Spider-Man makes a visit to see her in Amazing Spider-Man #239, but her life was forever to change in the pages of Spider-Man #96 when she was offered the opportunity to participate in the Gathering of Five by Norman Osborn.

Feeble and old, Web was in the state of decrepitude, and was to die soon, but she eventually gave in to Norman's "promise" of immortality and participated in the Gathering. At first, she was thought to have "won" the "prize" of death, but it turned out all but good for Ms. Web: She became much younger, and was now able to take on an astral form. Very shortly later, the new younger Madam Web showed up almost monthly in the pages of Spider-Woman V3, where she initially formed a "Spider-Woman" team by recruiting all three women who has taken that mantle. Together, they defeated Web's granddaughter: the evil Spider-Woman IV. She hasn't been seen much since.
