"The Man's Name Appears To Be...Mysterio!" - 17 Pages
|
Mysterio is back! Or is he? That answer will eventually be answered but not before various pages of supporting cast and Spider-Mobile happenings take place. The story begins as Spider-Man is being chased by the police while driving the spider-mobile and thinks he is free by going down an alley but that alley soon turns out to be a pier leading into the Hudson River. he abandons the car and returns home. The next day at college, Professor Miles Warren asks him questions concerning his bad marks he has been receiving and then meets Mary Jane and they take a long walk through the campus. We cut to J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson at a private club where Jameson receives a phone call. This call made Jonah very happy but we have no idea what the call was about.
Spider-Man is next seen swinging about town and very hungry. So hungry that he snatches a McDonalds bag full of fast food from the clutches of a man walking the street. His next little encounter isn't as funny though as a strange mist overcomes Spider-Man and a familiar character gets closer and closer to him knocking him out when he reaches him. It's Mysterio, who Spider-Man has not seen since Amazing Spider-Man #66 & #67 where Mysterio wound up in jail. Something is different about this Mysterio though as he seem much stronger to Spider-Man and he doesn't taunt him as much. The usual bag of tricks are pulled out of Mysterio's bag next as images of Spider-Man foes such as the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Vulture, Tarantula, Hammerhead, Jackal, Grizzly, Molten man, Morbius, & the Lizard attack him. Spider-Man doesn't fall for this trick and then goes after Mysterio but Mysterio makes a quick getaway.
The shocker to the story is on the final page as Peter returns to the Bugle stating that he was in the middle of a fight between Spider-Man and Mysterio when talking to Betty Brant and Ned Leeds. Ned questions if Peter really saw Mysterio or a ghost because according to him, Mysterio died in prison almost a year ago! Peter now wonders if he is cracking up or not but we shall learn the answers to all these questions next issue!
